The winners of the 26th Thessaloniki Wine & Spirits Trophy

746 wines and 49 spirits are the winners of the 26th edition of the "Thessaloniki Wine & Spirits Trophy"!

An amazing event orchestrated by Master of Wine Konstantinos Lazarakis in his role as President of the Competition.

By his side, a panel of 30 distinguished personalities on the judging committee who tasted and evaluated a total of 1,045 samples, including 974 wines and 71 spirits, as well as the members of the organizing committee and the president's support team, consisting of representatives of the Greek wine industry.

It is worth noting that the wine judging panel worked in five different groups led by Masters of Wine Roderick Smith (president of the Institute of Masters of Wine), Elizabeth Gabay, and Natasha Hughes, and Master Sommeliers Matthew Wilkin and Eleftherios Haniadakis (the only MS in Greece).

The spirits group was led by DipWSET Andreas Matthidis, Vice Head of Education and Principal of Spirits School for WSPC educational programs, founder and president of the Panhellenic Union of Sommeliers.

One of the wine judges was Master of Wine candidate Manuela Prieth, who was invited as a winner of the Thessaloniki Essay Competition with her essay on the topic "Should Greek wine producers prioritize on-trade or off-trade listings in your local market? Which strategic tools would you use?"

The judging panel was completed, without the right to score, by a team of six associate judges, another institution of the organization that, in addition to promoting quality Greek and Cypriot wines and spirits, aims to educate and motivate professionals working in this field.

But now the spotlight is on the winners, wines and spirits from 240 wineries, distilleries, and liquor producers from Greece and Cyprus, which excelled with their high quality, winning medals and distinctions.

The "Vinsanto Mikra Thira 2017" was awarded as the Best Wine of the Competition and the "4-Year-Old Aged Distillate Asklipios" as the Best Spirit of the Competition.

On the website www.tiwc.gr, you can find out about all the awards from this year's event, the best in each category.

The award ceremony for the Competition will take place on Sunday, March 15, at 7:00 p.m. at the Athens Conservatoire with the participation of the winning winemakers, distillers, and beverage producers from Greece and Cyprus (admission by invitation only).
