Maria Xanthopoulou was born in Thessaloniki.

She studied Chemistry at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and

Oenology (D.N.O.) at the University of Montpellier I.

She worked in the wine production (1992-2003) for several Greek wineries including Tsantali, Domaine Porto Carras, Ktima Kir-Yianni and Achaia Clauss.

She contributed to the Thessaloniki International Wine and Spirit Competition (2004 – 2017) as head oenologist and consultant.  

Since 2005 she has been working as a Technical Support - Sales Representative for Astron Chemicals S.A., a company that represents and distributes specialty materials and ingredients for food, wine and beverage industry. She supports wineries in Greece and Cyprus as well.

She has been running wine courses for professionals and amateurs, since the mid-nineties and has delivered several presentations of the Greek Wines in Greece and abroad.

She has written on wine for numerous publications and has participated as a jury member in various wine competitions in France, Greece, Italy and Bulgaria.

She is a member of the Union of Greek Oenologists, of the “Union des oenologues de France” and of the Association of Greek Chemists.
